If you’ve noticed more SUVs on our roads, that’s because most SUV segments are growing at a phenomenal rate in Canada. Recently, a new segment has emerged with smaller, subcompact models. The newest model in this growing niche is the 2017 Nissan Qashqai, unveiled at the last International Auto Show in Detroit.
2017 Nissan Qashqai: a lot of space in an economic format
This week, Nissan announced pricing for the new 2017 Nissan Qashqai, and let's just say that the Japanese manufacturer did not disappoint. Indeed, the brand new Qashqai will be offered starting from $19,998 when it arrives on the market in a few months. You get a wealth of impressive features at that price including heated seats, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth, and a 5.0-inch touchscreen.
With its starting price below $20,000, the 2017 Nissan Qashqai becomes the most affordable model in its segment. Not only will you save a few thousand dollars when compared to similar models, the Qashqai also stands out by offering several different versions. We've already talked about the entry-level 2017 Nissan Quashqai, but now let's take a look at the other two models, the SV and SL variants.
The SV model starts at $24,598 and adds a sunroof, heated leather steering wheel, remote engine start system, Nissan Intelligent Key, satellite radio and the Divide-N-Hide system that adds a lot of versatility to the Qashqai’s trunk. That trunk can accommodate 648 liters, more than the vast majority of subcompact SUVs in the same segment.
The top trim level is the SL model which adds leather seats, a 6-way power driver's seat, a navigation system and a larger 7.0-inch center touchscreen. The Nissan Qashqai SL also offers 19-inch wheels and all-wheel drive is standard, all for only $29,498.
A fuel-efficient and very fun engine in the 2017 Nissan Qashqai
The 2017 Nissan Qashqai will be equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 141 horsepower and 147 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission in the entry-level model while all other versions receive Nissan’s famous continuously variable automatic transmission.
